Zane Shumeiko

Zane Shumeiko is a Latvian textile artist, born in 1982 in Riga. Since 2014, she has lived and worked in Tallinn, Estonia, where she is also a guest lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts.

Shumeiko graduated from the Department of Textile Art at the Latvian Academy of Arts in 2005. She later studied fashion textile design in Milan, Italy, and worked in the creative industries. In 2022, she obtained an MA degree from the Department of Design and Crafts at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Zane Shumeiko has participated in artist residencies, projects, and exhibitions in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, England, Finland, Italy, Ukraine, Australia, and other countries.

Since 2023, Zane Shumeiko has been a member of the Association of Latvian Textile Artists and the Estonian Textile Artists’ Association (ETAA).

Her work focuses on experimental free-motion embroidery and mixed-media art. She is particularly interested in the psychological aspects of the making process and explores how textile art practice affects emotional and mental states. Through experimentation with textile techniques, she seeks to tell stories and express both personal and universal emotions.
