Harpa Jónsdóttir

Close to the sea the sky is immense, and the horizon seems to go on forever. The delicate vegetation, battered by the wind, pebbles formed by restless waves and the light, always the light, these are my inspiration and my source of energy and peace.

All my embroidery pieces are an expression of nature. Many refer in some way to the resilience of life. The flowers that bloom in cracked asphalt, the resilient vegetation that survives on the merciless sand, the fledglings that must reach the sea or perish. In some way they are optimistic. I need to believe that life finds a way, despite harsh conditions, pollution, global warming, pandemics, and other terrors.
